Let me post the first question on this board and tickle your superb minds a little...

I have been working for the past 15 years (tagal na no?) and I have met and managed staff (and bosses) as well who have different viewpoints when it comes to becoming a CPA.

While most of my previous bosses are Certified Public Accountants in their own right (and I am too), there are those who are not and simply enjoyed not having this title all along.   Predominantly, these boss-mentors of mine are great thinkers and are really really good in Finance and Accounting as well as in other areas like Office Administration and Operations.  CPA or not, they are all good.  They managed to climbed the corporate ladder even though some of them are not CPAs.

On the staff side, only a handful are really determined to become a CPA.  If my memory serves me right,  I have seen only 1 person pass the CPA Board during his term under me in my previous employer; a handful of my other staff tried but failed.  I have tried to help them as much as I can but to no avail.  While the many others, often those that failed once on the CPA Board Exams, would not want to continue or pursue being a CPA.  But even then, there are those who are not CPAs but they have shown tremendous brain power and superior work performance beating the other CPAs in the Finance team.

I would like to ask, therefore, your opinion on the importance of having this coveted title - C.P.A – to you; that elusive 3 letter acronym every new Accounting graduate would normally want to have as suffix on their names.  Do you really care/d about becoming a CPA and how far would or did you go to get it?
